Classes

  • Get to Know the Machine

Beginners can start here! Use your machine or one of my fully computerized sewing machines.

The goal of this class is to make you comfortable using a sewing machine and all the stitching basics. You will leave with enough knowledge to get you started on simple projects.

This is the class to introduce you to your machine and all its functions. Alicia will show you how to thread the machine and bobbin, how to use the features such as stitch patterns, stitch width and length, and other special functions of your machine.

**If you are bringing your child with you, just enroll yourself.

    CLASS DATES

  • Open-Lab Style Class Tues. or Fri.

Beginners and advanced students are welcome in these classes, as everyone works on their own with guidance from Alicia. Come learn to sew or improve your skills in these hands-on classes. Make a project you’ll be proud of and take the guesswork out of sewing. You will also learn how to navigate pattern instructions. Students will learn machine basics, pattern reading, and basic sewing and finishing techniques.

I highly encourage beginners to work from a commercial pattern such as Simplicity, New Look, McCalls etc. These contain vocabulary, instructions and lots of information to help you learn the construction process.

Select a pattern that is labeled “easy, 2-hour, learn to sew or beginner.” In general, a pattern with fewer pieces will go together quicker. Garments like pajama pants, simple skirts, jackets and bath robes are good choices.

    Bring to the first class:
Pattern, fabric, notions, pins and pin cushion

*This class is open to anyone 14 and older or if you’ve been in a summer Sewing Machine Camp or After School Sew-it-All Class.
